There was a party last night, hosted by Lady Chloe. I would not have gone, but Mother insisted, and did not really give me any choice in the matter - she sent Byron the footman to collect me, and to deliver me home.

The party was dreadfully boring. Lady Ivy was there, and she and I had a lovely, albeit brief, converstion, which was cut short by Lord Dayne, who is such a boor. Lord Czernov was there as well, although I managed to avoid him entirely. (I don't think that Lady Ivy did.) In all, I managed to avoid almost everyone - I was working on that article about skateboarding culture. I hid in a corner and worked, isntead of having to socialize.

Saturday

Father was shot yesterday while going into the House. Mother went ballistic, and didn't even bother contacting me - Jeeves had to let me know, and tell me which hospital he had been taken to. Once I got there, I had to convince the doctors to sedate Mother so that she would stop interfering with Father's treatment.

He should be alright in the end - the shot went through his shoulder, and while it took a sizeable piece out of him, nothing terribly important was damaged.

The police have been, and are trying to find whoever it was who shot him. I have little faith in their abilities.

Why would someone shoot Father? He doesn't have nearly enough power to be a target - at least, I don't think he does. I have been rather distant and inattentive recently, but Mother does drive me batty, so I shouldn't be too hard on myself. I really should look into things, see why he might have become a target, what he's been up to that would make him a target, or how things have changed to make him a target.

Once I know why Father was targetted, I can determine who would benefit from his death. And then we'll see.
