Gear

Gear is the various gadgets and enhancements that the character has. The more points you spend on a piece of Gear, the more it can do - your System can do night vision, your Outfit can alter itself, etc.

System

It is quite common to have a data storage/retrieval system implanted. At it's most basic, one's System is a network attached device with basic lookup and storage abilities. More advanced Systems can include optical overlays, assisted vision, EM scanners, private hardlines and other computerized marvels. Network access and power are both cheap and fairly reliable (at least near cities), so having one's System be able to maintain or output truly private data is a nice trick to have.

At the most basic level, think of System as a built-in cellphone with a hard drive.

Outfit

More well-to-do citizens can afford clothes made from nanotech materials with brand names like SmartFibre™, LivingWool™, SecondSkin™ and RealSilk™. At the most basic level, an Outfit is self-cleaning and self-repairing. Most are able to do minor colour changes and alterations. More high-powered Outfits can completely change from one set of clothes to another, shift colours like a chameleon, have air conditioning, and can serve as armour by hardening against attacks.

It's not uncommon for persons more concerned with appearance to invest in a nice Outfit and eschew a System - a decent outfit can generally also make phone calls and display network data to goggles or an on-demand display screen on the Outfit.

Enhancements

Enhancements cover built-in gear that make your character stronger, faster, and often stranger. Embedded grappling cables, functional wings, a built-in cloaking device, an imago broadcaster and other weird attachments and cybernetic implants are all possible. Note that something like enhanced strength should be covered by taking extra points in Brawn.

Weapons

Again, the general rule is that the more specific the “Weapon” is, the more value per point you get - that's the cost of flexibility. So, 20 points in “guns” would mean you have one hell of a lots of fairly normal guns, but a 20 point rail gun is going to be something special. And frightening.

Projectile firearms are still in use. Additionally, strong characters might have access to a rail gun. Flechette pistols are in vogue among those looking to confound armour. HERF guns are useful for knocking electronics offline. For the duellist, both mundane swords of extraordinary material and plasma torches are used to settle serious grievances among gentlepersons.

See weapons for more detail on the kind of weaponry in use.

Gadgets

Anything else that doesn't fit into the previous categories might be called a gadget. Examples include a clockwork EMP generator, robot bees, an auto-shield and a mag-lev velocipede.
