The Adversary is a being from “beyond the veil of the world”, an “Outsider”. Some claim he is a man, albeit one with great power. Some say he is a great demon, fanged and horned. Some say he is a great wizard. Some, all or none of these may be true.

What The Blood do know is that he can come and go from the world as he pleases, and that he wants this place as his own.

The coming of The Adversary began with a number of abductions from The Blood. At first, the selection process seemed random - members from any faction might suddenly fall off the grid and vanish. Later, he seemed to strike preferentially at Independants, whose absence was less likely to be noticed.

In time, some of the lost Blood were seen again. When they returned, though, they were zelaots, converted to The Adversary's cause, talking of conquest, destruction and “glory in the infinite worlds”.

The threat of The Adversary has caused the various factions to unite to try to stop his grandiose plans.
